Lee Chapman Parks | Barbara Kucharski Award for Undergraduate Clinical Excellence

Hometown: Auburn, AL

Greatest Accomplishment: My greatest accomplishment at The University of Alabama is being awarded the Barbara Kucharski Award for Undergraduate Clinical Excellence. I received this award after participating in the Clinical Speech Practicum, CD 377. This practicum provided me with invaluable skills and experiences that I will carry into my career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. I am honored to have been recognized for my hard work and determination by the Department of Communicative Disorders!

Favorite Course: My favorite course I have taken is Aural Rehabilitation (CD 444). This course sparked my interest in Auditory-Verbal Therapy and has inspired me to pursue a career in working with children who have hearing loss. My professor, Rebecca Brooks, used her personal experiences in the field along with the course material to make the class interesting and enjoyable. In a recent shadowing experience with a local speech-language pathologist, the clinician told me she was shocked by how knowledgeable I was about A-V Therapy and the latest hearing technology. I am eager to continue learning about topics discussed in this course as I pursue a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology.

Future Plans: I plan to attend graduate school in the fall to pursue a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology.
