Laura Whitfield, Distinguished Scholar

Major: Biology on the pre-dental track, concentration in University Honors

Hometown: Brandon, Mississippi

Favorite Experience at UA: I believe my greatest success on campus is being able to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout my college career, and ultimately earning the honor of being a Distinguished Undergraduate Scholar. Growing up, my dad instilled in me a love for The University of Alabama. My family has a long-standing tradition of Alabama students, and I am a part of the 7th generation to attend. From childhood, I made it my personal mission to keep the tradition alive and represent my family well. Graduating with these honors from this school that I have loved my whole life means so much to not only myself, but my family as well.

Favorite Class: This is a difficult question to answer because I truly have had many amazing professors and classes here at the University. If I had to pick a favorite class, I would pick Personalized Genetic Medicine with Dr. Caldwell. It was such an interesting class and really helped me realize the passion I had for the evolving world of genetics. However, I can not go without mentioning my Organic I class with Dr. Snowden because Dr. Snowden made a very challenging course a fun and valuable experience that prepared me well for my dental admissions exams and helped with my future courses.

Future Plans: I plan to attend The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry.
