Mackenzi Barrett | Distinguished Undergraduate Scholar

Mackenzi BarrettMajor: Philosophy with a concentration in Jurisprudence and Economics (AS)

Minor: Randall Research Scholar and Mathematics

Hometown: Madison, Georgia

Favorite Experience: My favorite overall experience has been my research with UA Law professor Dr. Benjamin McMichael. I reached out to him about joining his research after I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in law and economics. For the last year and a half, I have been working with him on a project about scope-of-practice laws governing Certified Nurse-Midwives. This experience has taught me a lot about research in general and interacting with other academics. My research with Dr. McMichael confirmed for me that I was on the correct track.

Favorite Class: My favorite class was EC 410 Law and Economics with Dr. William Walsh, who is also my favorite professor. It was through this class that I discovered my passion for law and economics and decided that I wanted to pursue an academic career in this field. Dr. Walsh was, and continues to be, an invaluable source of advice and support.

Future Plans: I will be pursuing a J.D. and Ph.D. in Economics this fall.
